Yaba Daba DOOOOO!!!

No people I am not happy...far from it
Its just that I am having a sudden longing for the good old shows that were featured on Cartoon Network. Yah ohk Manchanda will probably say that I am being really childish but then when did I ever grow up, atleast the child in me hasn't.
My tryst with Cartoon Network began way back in 1995 when I was this little chap all of age 6. I had gone to visit a friend of mine and upon arrival I found him totally engrossed in Scooby Doo which was becoming a rage with us back then. After many tantrums and much pleading & begging I finally convinced my parents to subscribe for Cartoon Network.
It was like a whole new world for me. They say that television kills imagination but to me it offered a plethora of intriguing and fascinating ideas. I would say that my early exposure to the outside world( which here mainly refers to the American & European way of life) began with the cartoons. My mom was always apprehensive about my addiction to cartoons but who cares!!
This post is actually the brainchild of a very animated discussion that Fahad, Nikita and me were having the other day in the bus. We were fondly recollecting those happy times when as kids we used to watch Power Zone on cartoon network. I trust that most of you would be remebering Johnny Quest, Captain Planet, Swat Cats, Space Ghost, Fantastic Four, Centurians & the like.
I still remember how I used to shout out, "GO PLANET!!!" whenever Captain Planet used to come. I remember how much I used to like Jesse(remeber that redhead from Johnny Quest) & Wonder Woman. This reminds me of those good old cartoon songs. I sometimes still start humming , 'meet george jetson' or 'the flintstones' or my favourite 'captain planet he's the hero....'. when I feel depressed. I might sound a little sentimental but whenever I look back down the memory lane & find a little guy watching cartoons, it always manages to bring a smile on my face. How wonderful everything was- The Mask, Dexter, Halloween tree................
And then one day Nemesis fell!! Cartoon Network will now be aired in Hindi.
Then we had Megakat city turn into Maahabilla shehar, Swatcats into bade miyaoon & chotte miyaoon, Stanely Ipkiss into Sachin Sabmiss and Mask into nakaab( who kept saying Jhakaaassssssss, rok sako toh rok lo!!) Life took an upleasant turn & now the dumb people at cartoon network have scrapped all the good old shows and now show useless crap like Pokemon and Beyblade. Curses be on them. Bacche kii jaan le lii!!
So now I think I'll sign off in the hope that someone from cartoon network will read my blog and fulfill my wish to put back on all the old cartoons in english.
But remeber kids - THE POWER IS YOURS.........

Hari Puttar aur aag ka pyaala !!!

That is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire for you. I finally got to go and see the film today at PvR Priya after school hours. The movie was awesome. The special effects in Hollywood films always manages to put Bollywood special effects to shame( I still remeber that Jaadu in Koi mil gaya who resembeled a blue cow which had learned to walk and talk).
The thing about Harry Potter is that you seem to grow with the character. I read the first one when I was 11 the same time when Harry was 11 and the sixth one this year when Harry too turned 16. It is one of the only books which have had me emotionally involved. One actually gets the true feel of the story while reading it and it always manages to involve you no matter how many times you read it. I mean when Dumbledore died in the sixth book I was actually depressed for 2 days( know it sounds crazy but there you have it!!).
The fourth movie was loads better than the previous Harry Potter flicks, maybe because the fourth book itself is the best amongst the other books. I actually enjoy watching the film because I get the oppurtunity to actually see how the characters are portrayed and then compare them as per the picture I formed of them while reading the book.
The movie of course was not able to encompass every little detail of the book because then it would take ages for the movie to end. Its a movie meant for people who have already gone through the book and who want to see their imagination brought to life. Well Daniell Radcliffe as Harry Potter was at his best in portraying the movie's protagonist. Emma Watson as Hermione Granger was at her gorgeous best( Do you think she'll marry me?!!). And Rupert Grint as Ron Weasely was doing what he is meant to do- play the fool.
The book deviated a little from the main plot and focussed more on the hormonal changes our teenage wizards are going through. The scene in which Harry asks out Cho( who looked quite pretty) really got me nostalgic;) Emma and that Viktor Krum guy form a really steamy couple. The character playing Fleur Delacour looked absolutely stunning( especially when she was wearing the swim suit) and as for Cedric Diggory( I'll leave it to you girls to describe him).
The movie was gripping and enthralling especially the duel with Lord Voldemort( who looked enchantingly ugly). Cedric Diggory's death always leaves me a little miserable( don't get any wrong ideas because its just that I get totally involved and find myself in Harry's predicament).
I'll be one of the first one to regret when Harry Potter mania is over. I am a self-confessed Hari da Puttar fan and I am proud of it!! I am also an Emma Watson fan and I want to marry her.
So all in all a good movie and a must watch for all those Harry Potter freaks out there....
chao for now
Abhi
P.S. Rads, Ananya and Stuti thanks for making the movie enjoyable you people are fun!!
P.P.S I saw my class teacher Abha Chona there (of course I ran for my dear life!!).
P.P.P.S. I WANT Emma Watson!!

The Carnival!!!

Sorry people for not posting for a long time. Actually my last week was spent in total gloom and misery mainly because we got back our exam results (though I managed 85%, but I expect marks like anything & never get them) & other reasons which involve me getting my pal Aseem into trouble with his parents (His mom overheard our 'not so polite' conversation on the phone!!).
Throughout the weekend we were all busy speculating what the upcoming Children's day carnival would be like. Will it be as good as the one we had last year?? Will the DJ be able to rock the hard-to-please Dipsites?? And of course the girls were having a hard time in deciding what to wear?!!
And guess what?!! This year's carnival was totally & amazingly awful (I think this is an oximoron which our English teacher talks about) as compared with the last year's carnival.
The DJ, the same sardar who was DJing last year, was called on again this year & he played such amazing tracks. From Mohabbatein lutaoonga to mere khwabon mein jo aaye he tried all varieties of songs to ensure that the music was boring. And what to say of his speakers, man my computer speakers are much better. As Aseem puts it, aawaz itni kharab thee ki gaane ki feel nahi aa rahi thee. Ohk enough criticism for one day because it wan't all that bad especially for me;) .Now all the guys, sab 16 saal key gabru Jawaan are such big , sorry can't find any other words, phattus. All of them aspire to dance with girls (its a boy thing all of us always wanna do that) but when given an open oppurtunity they shy away from it. Mention of such intelligent souls must be made at this point- my pals Aseem, Apoorv, Akshay, Mayank, Aakash and Ishaan. They chose to dance together in a corner hidden from the view of rest of the people.
And poor-old-me (Mind you I am being sarcastic) was dancing with around 10 girls half of whom I don't even know;) It was embarassing as in I could do with the company of one more guy but it was fun nonetheless.
Radhika man you rock, the best dancer & the best flirter I have seen in a long time. You won't believe it but Radhika was actually giving 'thumkas' and 'jhatkas' to some anonymous guys who were looking completely shocked!! And they were actually looking at me with an expression that said yahi paagal milee thi kya dance karne ke liye?;) Way to go Rads!!
Well another good dancer was Ananya but unfortunately she couldn't flirt coz I was around :)
At least Aakanksha and Priyamvada were there who weren't so inclined on dancing and were actually making me comfortable (dude I was the only guy there!!) by joining me in criticizing certain songs.
And yeah I am going to sue the next person who plays Kajrare in my presence. This song sux bigtime!!
So on the whole it was a fun-filled and ohk ohk day and I will post some pics as soon as Radhika sends them over to me.
chao people
